"Sara Genn's paintings are driven by her desire to create places of lyrical vibration and reflection while honouring the act of painting and its materials. Her compositions are deceptively simple and carry a quiet energy regardless of scale..." - excerpt from Sara Genn's biography." "Sara is working mainly in acrylics, but she also does oils, watercolors and serigraphs. She is dedicated, developing, exploratory artist – her work is currently showing a whimsical interest in human relationships. " If an artist comes intuitively from the point of design, notan – lightness/darkness – is natural. (Sara Genn)

what red do you think of ???
"If one says 'red' - the name of color - and there are fifty people listening, it can be expected that there will be fifty reds in their minds. And one can be sure that all these reds will be very different."
I used many pictures from Sara Genn because she uses the color white in almost all of her paintings in the image below of the women looking at the painting . This painting is an example of how white can be so important in a painting. White is the most important color in any painting. Many people forget when looking at a painting that white is the most important color because people don't think that a canvass is what and with out a white canvass any painting would be different. Think about it."Colors speak all languages. " -Joseph Addison

Introduction to her paintings:
"By reducing subject matter and external references, Sara Genn investigates colour relationships and the emotions they produce in the viewer. She began developing the series Colour, Moving and Still in 2003. Earlier works examine her gradual shift from calm, light colours to more energetic and intensely saturated hues. The new pieces featured in White hone in on the still and tranquil effects of the paler shades, starting with creamy pastels and moving to richer luxurious golden tones. Using suede-like textures and repeated circular motifs, Genn alludes to quilts as a means of blurring distinctions between high art and craft, and between domestic and precious objects."
“Painting light is its own encyclopaedia of art. Artists tackle it in all sorts of ways, the Italians used techniques like chiaroscuro – here I was riding a bicycle around in Italy, constantly aware of extreme light conditions, and then wandering through the Uffizi Gallery in Florence eating the A to Z of Italian light.” Sara Genn
